Well, you see we found this curious room (we're sure you've never been there), and it's large, and it's filled with all of these, these,
books

And people sit around and actually
read
them! Students even!
And they're guarded by this horrible, vulture-like monster, who gets horribly shirty if you bring any food in there.
It's called the library, and we will never, ever go back in there if we can help it. Now we know why Percy is like he is.
